Faun and Maenad

The Faun is a figure from Roman mythology related to nature, the countryside and the woods. Later on it was tied to the Satyrs from Greek mythology that were connected to the cult of Dionysus (Bacchus for the Romans). The priestesses of Bacchus, the Maenads, celebrated the god via singing, dancing, and wandering through forests and hills like wild animals, carrying and shaking the Thyrsus, a giant wand or staff covered in Ivy.
