Real strength renews itself.
The personification of the city, her cult was instituted during the Empire and she was celebrated on the 21st of April, the founding date of the city. She was usually represented as a young woman with a helmet and often with a cornucopia full of gifts. A relief of a wolf was sculpted on each side of her helmet, as well as a cherub, symbolizing the legend of the founding of the city by Romulus (on the Palatine) in 753 B.C. The legend holds that Romulus and Remus were descendents of the god Mars and Rea Silvia, daughter of Numitore, thus giving a divine origin to the city; Rome was created, because this was the will of the gods.
