The Dalmata’s pattern surrounds Venus’s movement as the water surrounds the chariot — black and white like waves and foam. The brilliant finish brings light to the scene: the sea horses, the creatures of the sea with her, the goddess seated with her body turned toward the observer and her gaze on the horizon. The gold-plated bronze of the bezel holds the moment together.
White is the foam of the sea at departure — the journey begins, all is in full light. Pale Blue opens the sky above the water, the horizon widens and the chariot moves on serene.
